No hype. No fluff. Just real-world use cases, expert prompts, and actionable tools.
As we move deeper into 2025, Sui is standing out in the increasingly competitive Layer 1 blockchain space. With significant technological innovation, rising DeFi activity, growing developer interest, and real-world corporate partnerships, Sui is positioning itself as a powerful player in Web3. This edition of Crypto HC explores how Sui is evolving across all layers of its ecosystem—from core protocol upgrades to real-world impact.
Technological Advancements: Enhancing Performance and User Experience
zkLogin Integration
Sui’s introduction of zkLogin marks a major usability breakthrough. This feature allows users to access decentralized applications using existing Web2 credentials like Google, Facebook, and Twitch—no crypto wallet or seed phrase needed. This bridges a key UX gap and lowers the barrier to onboarding millions of new users into the Web3 space.
Move Programming Language Upgrades
The Move programming language, originally created by Meta and now tailored for Sui, saw major improvements in 2024. These enhancements boosted security, streamlined smart contract development, and improved expressiveness for developers. It’s become a core part of why devs are choosing to build on Sui over other Layer 1 chains.
Mysticeti and Pilotfish Consensus Upgrades
Sui’s consensus system has also evolved, integrating innovations like Mysticeti and Pilotfish, which reduce latency and improve block finality. These updates have made Sui one of the fastest Layer 1s by transaction throughput, with sub-second finality becoming the standard across the network.
Ecosystem Expansion: DeFi, Gaming, NFTs, and Developer Growth
Bitcoin DeFi (BTCfi) on Sui
Sui is quietly becoming a hub for Bitcoin DeFi. In the first quarter of 2025, the amount of Bitcoin bridged to Sui more than doubled, thanks to new yield protocols and liquidity vaults. This BTCfi movement is expected to keep growing as Bitcoin holders look for yield opportunities in a secure Layer 1 environment.
DeFi and Stablecoin Surge
Sui’s Total Value Locked (TVL) recently crossed $1 billion, with decentralized exchanges, lending protocols, and stablecoin platforms leading the charge. Protocols like Cetus, FlowX, and Aftermath are rapidly expanding, helping Sui carve out a niche in the multi-chain DeFi world.
GameFi and NFT Growth
Gaming on Sui has progressed with multiple projects entering beta, integrating smart contracts for in-game economies. The NFT sector is also maturing, with creators taking advantage of Sui’s low fees and scalable infrastructure. Platforms are offering better minting experiences, and some Sui-native NFT collections are now trading cross-chain.
Overflow 2025 Hackathon
To drive global developer engagement, the Overflow 2025 Hackathon brought in over 3,000 participants from more than 50 countries. The hackathon featured tracks in DeFi, AI, digital identity, and creator tools, showing how wide Sui’s development scope has become.
Real-World Corporate Partnerships: Industry Begins to Bet on Sui
Beyond protocol development, Sui is gaining traction with real-world companies in gaming, cloud, fintech, and infrastructure. These partnerships signal that Sui isn’t just building for crypto-native users—but for global enterprise as well.
Google Cloud
Sui’s partnership with Google Cloud is among the most significant. Google is integrating Sui data into BigQuery, enabling enterprise-grade analytics for dApps. Sui is also using Vertex AI, Google’s AI platform, to train models for Move-based code generation, enhancing both security and dev tooling.
BytePlus (TikTok/ByteDance)
BytePlus, the enterprise division of ByteDance, is working with Sui to enhance social and gaming apps. This includes using Sui for identity and asset ownership, and leveraging its speed to handle interactive, high-frequency events like in-game trading or social graph updates.
SEED (Web3 Gaming Platform)
Gaming platform SEED, with more than 60 million users, received strategic investment from the Sui Foundation. Their goal: launch a new generation of on-chain games using Sui’s scalable Layer 1 infrastructure, aiming to reach 100 million players by 2026.
Talus (AI Agent Infrastructure)
Talus is building on Sui to deploy tokenized AI agents—autonomous bots capable of running decentralized strategies for DeFi, games, and operations. Their project Idol.fun already uses Sui to manage AI-driven digital personalities that interact in real-time on-chain.
Zero Hash
Through a direct integration, Zero Hash is allowing fintech apps to access Sui’s Layer 1 via API. This makes it easier for businesses to build payment systems, loyalty rewards, and crypto wallets on Sui without complex backend development.
Franklin Templeton Digital Assets
Franklin Templeton has entered into a strategic partnership with the Sui Foundation to fund early-stage Sui projects. The firm is especially focused on Sui’s capacity to power financial instruments and next-gen asset management platforms.
Revolut (Learn & Earn Partnership)
Global fintech giant Revolut has added Sui to its Learn & Earn program, introducing its 40 million+ users to Sui through rewards-based education. This initiative could drive a large wave of adoption, particularly in the European market.
Token Economics and Market Performance
Token Unlock, No Dump
On May 1, Sui unlocked 74 million SUI tokens, about 2.28% of its circulating supply. Despite fears of sell pressure, SUI’s price rose, and network usage increased. This was a testament to how well the market views Sui’s fundamentals and real-world traction.
Strong Price Action
SUI has rallied 84% over the past month, with a breakout above the $4 level, driven by active DeFi usage, growing developer activity, and institutional buying. Trading volume on both centralized and decentralized exchanges is up sharply.
Looking Ahead: Can Sui Lead the Next Web3 Wave?
What makes Sui compelling is its full-stack momentum: a fast-growing developer community, deep technical innovation, real-world partnerships, and an improving token economy. With strong backing from the Sui Foundation and the integration of AI, gaming, and Bitcoin into its ecosystem, Sui may soon become one of the most used Layer 1 blockchains globally.
