Trump’s Trade War Warning: What It Means for Crypto
In a blistering Truth Social post late Thursday, former President Donald Trump warned China of new retaliatory measures if it does not withdraw its newly imposed 34% tariffs on U.S. goods. Trump accused China of long-term tariff abuse, currency manipulation, and illegal subsidization.
“If China does not withdraw its 34% increase… by tomorrow, April 8th, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th,” Trump wrote. “Additionally, all talks with China… will be terminated!”
This announcement has injected fresh uncertainty into global markets, causing sharp moves in equities and commodity prices. The crypto market, too, is feeling the tremors.
How Crypto Might React
Bitcoin as a Hedge
With increased global tension, Bitcoin could regain its role as a “digital gold.” If traditional markets tank, crypto might see inflows from investors seeking diversification.
Altcoins in the Crossfire
While Bitcoin may hold up or benefit, smaller altcoins are more susceptible to broader sell-offs during risk-off periods.
De-Dollarization Narrative Strengthens
As U.S.-China tensions rise, skepticism toward fiat currencies—especially the U.S. dollar—might grow. This could enhance Bitcoin’s appeal as a decentralized store of value
